Day 1: Nyakalengija (1600m) to John Matte Hut (3420m)

Day 4: Elena Hut (4541m) to Margherita Peak (5109m) to Kitandara Hut (4027m)
To summit Margherita Peak, the climb begins from Elena Hut in the quiet wee hours of the morning waking up at about 3am and embark on the journey to Mount Stanley. The path will be leading you to the base of the Stanley Glacier. The ascent to the summit takes about 5-7 hours, depending on weather conditions and your climbing pace. From Kitandara Hut, the trail ascends steeply up the headwall very steeply and slippery, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to Fresh Field Pass at 4,282 meters. From the pass, you’ll traverse a long, high alpine mossy trail before starting your descent. The path is steep and rocky, leading you past the rock shelter at Bujongolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906. After 6-7 hours of hiking, you’ll arrive at Guy Yeoman Hut, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 6: Guy Yeoman Hut to Nyabitaba Hut to Nyakalengija
On your final day, the route descends the cliffs of Kichuchu, presenting a challenging but rewarding trek. Beyond Kichuchu, you’ll cross the boggy path twice over the Mubuku River jumping from one tussock to another and missing one is soaking in the bog, you will then cross the bridge and start moving through a bamboo forest. The trail then climbs up to Nyabitaba Hut, where you’ll complete the central circuit. From Nyabitaba, you’ll continue past Mihunga Gate, finishing your trek at Nyakalengija.
