A Complete 6 Peaks Rwenzori Trekking Expedition Itinerary

Day 1: Hike to Nyakalengeji  (1650m)to Nyabitaba camp (2650m)

The 13 days 6 Peaks Rwenzori expedition starts from Nyakalegeji , after meeting and being briefed by your friendly mountain guides you will set out into the forest with tall canopy trees the distance is about 6.5km journey and can be walked through for 4-6hours . Walking through the dense forested you will climb steep ascends with help of ladders ,then cross the bridge where you will then walk on a steady ground before finding the steep ascent again that will usher you into the first camp where you  will spend your first night within the dense forest of Nyabitaba Camp . Enjoy the camp with views of the portal peaks just across .

Day 2: Hike from Nyabitaba 2650m to Johnmatte 3505m

With melodies of the birds within the forest zone you will wake up to the sounds of the roaring river Mubbuku which is just  below Nyabitaba camp. Todays you will hiking to Johnmatte camp which is about 8-10hors of walking though uneven landscapes . Set out from Nyabitaba after a hot breakfast and slop the the Kurt Schaffer bridge where you will discover the confluence of two major rivers in the Rwenzori mountains, River Bujjuke and River Mubukku, take time taking photos before you embark on the trail that is now ascending. The ascent is a bit steep and will lead you to the  bamboo zone , here you are at 3000m above sea level . Walk through the thick  bamboo trees then you will be crossing hiking till the Nyamuleju shelter where you can rest  You will then walk through the shrubs  mixed with oldman’s beard trees before reaching the muddy slippery shores of river Bujjuku , walking through the amazing mossy forest you will be ushered into John matte camp .

Day 3:hike form Johnmatte ( 3505m) to Skull cave  (camping)

Wake up in amidst portal peaks, you can catch the sunrise that is very visible from this camp . Enjoy breakfast and after led by your guide set out for the skull cave where you be camping before embarking on your journey towards Mount Gessi. You will be walking though the heather and Rupenia zones with heather trees . Here alot of birds can be spotted including rhe Rwenzori Turaco.  Following your guide you will walk a steep ascent until you reach the Skull cave camp where you will pitch ground tents immersing yourself in the beauty if the Rwenzori mountains ;’s atmosphere.

Day4:  Walk from Skull cave to Lac de laluna camp

Ascending further up where you can easily view the democratic republic of Congo. its homesteads and forest you will slowly take stead steps through the steepy areas. The terrain is tough and very demanding its quite tiresome however rewarding with panoramic views  of the serene from the campsite you will setting tonight are worth it. On arrival , pitch tents at Lac de Laluna camp and soak yourself in the surrounding of the camp.

Day 5: Hike from Lac de Laluna to Mount Gessi (4800m)

Wake up very early well prepared for the challenge ahead that involves the summit of your very first peak in the Rwenzori mountains . Ascend to the Mount Gessi the Orlando peaks , walking through bouldering rocks and steep slopes. Upon arrival you will take photos for future refence , You will be viewing clearly Congo , after here descend back to Lac de Laluna camp where you will enjoy a a hot dinner and overnight in your camp.

Day 6 : Hike from Lac de laluna to Mount Emin (4900m)

Today waking up from your camp you will embark on your summit for the second peak of your adventure on the 13 days Rwenzori expedition. Walking through very beautiful landscapes you will ascend the trail that leads you to Mount Emin where you will see different plant species of the Rwenzori mountains. After the steep ascent you reach Mount Emin, endeavor to capture the beauty of this peak before returning to Lac de Laluna for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Descend Lac de laluna camp to Bigo camp 93505m)

Embark on the descent that will draw you walking from lac de laluna camp to the bugo camp where you will be pitching tents for the night . The descend bring the views of Mount Stanley, Baker and Speke to you eyes. The slopping is quit challenging and requires you to  be stead to avoid any minor injuries . You will enjoy the sceneries as you approach Bigo camp. Pitch a tent where you will be spending a night here at Bigo camp.

Day 8: Walk from Bigo camp to Bujjuku camp (3900)

Set out from the Bigo camp and start on your journey to Bujjuku camp , located in the Bujjuku Valley . You will descend from the camp and later walk through the boggy tussocks of Bujjuku lake which you will also be seeing as you descend . Continue with the adventurous walk through the bog section till you reach the camp where you will be sleeping tonight and this is the center of the Rwenzori mountains.

Day 9: Bujjuku to Mount Speke (Victoria Emanuele)

Embark on your journey to Mount Speke, walking through steep trails and rocky terrains . Ascend via Dr. Stuhlman’s pass as you discover his contribution to the Rwenzori mountains. Reach the summit of Mount Speke in located within the huge rocks . Take time to soak into the beauty of the mountains before  you start descending back to Bujjjuku camp where you will spend the night.

Day10: Walk from Bujjuku to Ellena camp (4541m)

Leaving the camp you will setout through the boggy area of Bujjuku before you embark on a steep ascent. After the Steep ascent you will walk through bouldering rocks having a forest of groundsels before you emabark on a steep ascent to Scott Elliot pass. From here you will continue further waking through rocks until you reach Ellena camp .Take time to admire the surrounding of the camp viewing alot of Rwenzori’s beauty from above. Diner and overnight at Ellena.

Day 11; Ellena to Margherita Peak (5109m) to Kitandara camp

Waking up very early for the challenge , you will embark on the road to the summit at about 3am in the night , walking through the bouldering rocks a past Ellena . Finally you will reach walk via the Stanley plateau and open exposed area before reaching the hike to the glacier. With your crampon walk on the glacier and finally you will see yourself at the top with the sunrise just above you head . Take time to take photos within the clouds and after you can start on the decend to Kitandara camp , located just on the banks of the Lower Kitandara lake.

Day 11: Kitandara to Baker to Fresh field pass.

Wake up early and after breakfast , continue on your journey here you will be summiting Mount Baker. Hike to Freshfield pass , then continue enjoy the breathtaking landscapes of the scattered vegetation on rocks. Finally after reaching Baker return to Fresh field pass where you will pitch a tent for the night.

Day 12: Fresh field to Weisman Peak to Guyeoman

Wake up very early and start on your journey to the last peak on your 13 days 6 Peaks Rwenzori expedition. Today you will walk over the rock area of fresh field pass, ascending the steep sections of the area . On arrival at Weisman peak you will take time viewing the serene beauty and the surrounding take photos and after descend down to Guyeoman camp.

Day 13: Guyeoman to Nyakalegeji

Conclude your epic journey with a descent through bogs and bamboo forests, reflecting on the incredible experiences and memories forged amidst the Rwenzori Mountains.
