A Complete 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Itinerary
Day 1: Nyakalengija (1650m) to Nyabitaba Camp (2650m) – +25°C
Day 1 of your 8 days 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Challenge starts off from Nyakalegeja a busy village in Ibanda subcounty in Kasese district . On arrival at the park gate where all the park activities commence on the Central circuit trail , you will be registered by the authorities and then briefed. The team of guides and porters will be introduced to you with whom you will conquer the three peaks with. After the briefing and introductions, follow the footsteps of your guide who will lead you though the towering trees of Nyakalegeji. Continue with the ascent through this dense forest encountering numerous tree species. Walking on steps and crossing minor bridges, continue the ascent till you check in at the hidden camp that is located amidst very tall trees above River Mubuku. Upon arrival you will be guided on what’s next and consider this camp as your very first home welcoming you to the Rwenzori mountains .
Day 2: Nyabitaba Camp (2650m) to John Matte Camp (3505m) – +15°C
On your second day of the 8days 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Challenge, starts with a delicious breakfast , with the sight of the portal peaks that can be viewed while at Nyabitaba camp. Check out from the camp and supported by your walking stick head out for our second camp and home for the nigh, John matte camp. After a short descend , you will cross the confluence of rivers Mubbuku and Bujjuku on the famous Kurt Shaffer bridge . Meeting a steep ascent , you will walk up hill till you are drawn to the bamboo trees . Continue the walk through the Shelter proceed through the short and tall trees . You will then walk along the shores of River Bujjuku before reaching the mossy forest that is below the camp. John matte is an interesting camp with Lake Bujjuku adding to its uniqueness as the River Bujjuku is in front of the camp . The camp also offers stunning views of the sunset on clear day just above Margherita Peak.
Day 3: John Matte Camp (3380m) to Bujuku Camp (3962m)
You day 3 of 8 days 3 Peaks Expedition Challenge is quite an interesting walk after crossing the great river Bujjuku , you will be welcomed into a totally amazing new kind of vegetation the giant lobellias in the lower bigo bog . The hypnotizing boad walk through the open valley in Swamp is unspeakable of as you transition from the forested section to the upper bigo bog. Eventually you will walk along the shores of Lake Bujjuku , here the ground is really slippery but after walking a board walk is available . After the board walk the exciting adventure of the tussocks is on where you are required to calculate your step to ensure you don’t sink in the bog. Bujjuku camp is your home for the night just know your sleeping in the Centre of the Rwenzori mountains .
Day 4: Bujuku Camp (3900m) to Mount Speke (Victoria Emmanuelle Peak 4520m)
Wake up very early and prepare with the guidance of the team of guides for the challenging yet rewarding hike to Mount Speak . Ascend to Stuhlmann’s point , a point named in honor of the first European who accurately described and named the vegetation zones of the the Rwenzori mountains. The trail will take you through the Snowline of Mountain Speke upto its highest point on Vitoria Emanuel at 4420meters. Capture the breathtaking photos of the rugged peak and then return to Bujjuku camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 5: Bujuku Camp (3900m) to Elena Camp (4541m) – -5°C
Today is your 5th day of the 8days 3 Peaks Rwenzori expedition Challenge, this is the day which launches the start to summit Magherita Peak the very highest point in Uganda and most popular peak. You will set foot from Bujjuku after the tussocks through the muddy area climb over the head of the gully then the metal ladder over a steep section. From here you will walk through the giant groundsels in huge mossy rocks . This leads you to Scott Elliot pass , continue hiking through the rocks till Ellena camp the very last camp on the Central circuit trail that leads you to the summit of Magherita Peak on Mount Stanley. Upon arrival relax and have an overnight ahead of the summit day.
Day 6: Elena Camp (4541m) to Margherita Peak (5109m) and Kitandara Lakes Camp
Wake up very early to prepare to summit peak at around 3am , you will walk through bouldering steepy and slippery rocks. After this you will then reach the stanely plateau and after crossing it your final climb leads you to the summit of magherita peak . Enjoy the experience of walking on glacier in the equatorial region tied and joined together with ropes as a team. After the summit photos of jubilation and excitement of descend to Kitandara camp through Ellena for lunch .
Day 7: Freshfield Camp to Mount Baker
Day 7 of your 8 days 3 Peaks Expedition Challenge is your second last day and final night in the Rwenzori mountains. Today you will wake up and embark on the steepy hike from the Kitandara camp to fresh field pass that offers views of the Congolose homesteads, you will continue to Mount Baker via a steep rocky terrain . After reaching the summit , take the panoramic views capturing memorable photos of the vast landscapes of Rwenzori mountain. From here you will proceed on your journey to Guyeoman camp where you are spending your last night in the mountain.
Day 8: Guy Yeoman Camp (3505m) to Nyabitaba Camp
On your final day which is day 8 trek through bogs , cliffs, steeping on several mettalic adders o the steepy Kichuchu cliff there after walk through bamboo forests, making your way back to Nyabitaba Camp for a hot lunch. Continue onward to Nyakalengija, arriving in the in the evening hours . Though exhausted, you’ll be filled with smiles and memories from your adventure in the Rwenzori mountains.
